It can be hard figuring out how to navigate the exciting world of elementary school! Below is some helpful information regarding school routines, schedules, and other useful topics.

The AISD Parent Cloud

Parents are now able to access all their students’ educational information in one place. The Parent Cloud serves as the primary resource for all online parent resources. Go online to access the Parent Cloud. Find curriculum descriptions, grades, assignments, and lunch menus, as well as information about classrooms, campus registration, the district and more.

School arrival process

  • The school doors open at 7 a.m. Students who arrive between 7-7:30 a.m. are expected to sit in the cafeteria until the morning assembly begins at 7:30 am.
  • Parents may drop off students in the circle drive in front of the school beginning at 7:15am. When dropping off, parents should remain inside their cars. Safety Patrol will help students exit their cars, close doors, etc.
  • Parents may park and escort children inside. Sign in at the lobby, and wear a visitor sticker. Parents are encouraged to make a quick goodbye so that children can start their day.
  • If you are parking, please do so on Pillow Road or in visitor spots only. There are also remote "Walk and Roll" locations in the Burger Center lot across from the Sunset Valley Police department or in the parking lot near the Bread Basket at Westgate & Jones.
  • After assembly, teachers walk children to their classrooms. Children are tardy if they are not in their classrooms by 7:45am. Arrivals after that time must stop in the office for a tardy slip.

 School dismissal process

  • The school will follow the parent’s directions on how a child is to go home. If there is a change in transportation arrangements, please notify your child’s teacher in advance, in writing. Teachers escort students to the front and bus pickup areas.
  • Parents who pick up students are asked to meet them at the front of the school. Please do not come into the school.
  • If you are parking, please do so on Pillow Road or in visitor spots only. There are also remote "Walk and Roll" locations in the Burger Center lot across from the Sunset Valley Police department or in the parking lot near the Bread Basket at Westgate & Jones.
  • Parents can also pick up their children by driving through the circle drive. The school provides brightly colored pick-up passes to be placed on your dashboard to quickly recognize authorized vehicles. Cars start lining up in the circle drive at about 2:20 p.m. PLEASE FORM A DOUBLE LINE IN THE CIRCLE DRIVE.
    • K-2nd grade students and their older siblings will be on the right side on the sidewalk under the awning. They will be in order by age with Kinder students first and 2nd grade at the far end.
    • 3rd-5th grade students who do NOT have younger siblings in PK-2nd grade will be in the waiting area on the left side of the circle drive.
    • Be sure to your pick-up pass is on your dash so it’s visible to staff members.
  • Parents may not leave their cars unattended in the circle drive at any time. Once children are outside, the line of cars moves quickly, usually finishing by 3:05 p.m. Safety Patrol directs parents to move cars up as far as possible. Don’t worry if you pass your child; we will get them to you. Students must wait until Safety Patrol has opened the car door.
  • Students are brought inside the building at 3:10 p.m. Parents arriving late must enter the building to pick up and sign out their students. There is no adult supervision after 3:10 p.m, so please arrive on time.

Who will be my child’s teacher?

Meet the Teacher Day

Our Principal, Ms. Bush works over the summer to create class lists for the new school year. Things are changing until the day before you and your child are invited to school to meet your teacher. At 11am on Meet the Teacher day, all class lists are posted in the main hallway. Your family is invited to check the class listings, visit your child’s new classroom, meet the teacher and deliver your child’s school supplies.

Sunset Valley Elementary’s first day of school for the 2017-2018 school year is August 21, 2017.

Lost and Found

Please put your child’s name on all items that come to school—clothing, lunch box, backpack. When items are found at school, they are placed in the Lost & Found box.  Unclaimed articles are donated to charity at the end of each semester. For question regarding lost and found, please contact the office at 512-414-2392. You can purchase washable permanent labels from Mabel's Labels for your child's items and the SSV PTA will receive 20% of your purchase!

Lunch Menu and Pricing

Visit the AISD website to find everything you need to know about lunch pricing and to find monthly menus with nutrition information.

How to pay for lunch

Parents can send lunch money with their child or set up an account. With the My Lunch Money website, parents can add funds to their child’s account at any time.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration for My School  does require a student ID number. However, the service closes over the summer AND not all students will have a student number yet. Pre-K students, for instance, will not receive a number until they are approved for the Pre-K program in August. Parents can get student ID numbers from the office or their classroom teacher during the week before school starts. Access information will also be provided at Meet the Teacher Day.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program

All necessary forms to apply for free or reduced meals will be sent home with each child. Students participating in the program last year will be covered for the first 30 days, but must complete a new application within the first 2 weeks of the school year in order to continue the program. THE LAW REQUIRES A NEW APPLICATION. If you have any questions, please call the school office at 512-414-2392, or contact AISD Food Services at 512-414-0255.
